Large Polyp Stony Corals are
generally larger calcareous
corals with large fleshy
polyps. LPS hard corals
produce long sweeper
tentacles which they use for
feeding, and to keep other
coral away, so care should be
taken in placing your LPS
Coral as it will sting, and in
some cases can kill other
species of coral. Large Polyp
Stony Corals extension of the
tentacles depends upon the
amount of light, current, and
whether the coral is feeding.
Some LPS corals have
symbiotic algae zooxanthellae
hosted within its body that
provides the majority of its
nutritional requirements
through photosynthesis. but
feeding your coral will still be
needed. You should feed your
LPS coral a combination of
micro-plankton, Cyclop-eeze,
baby brine shrimp, Mysis
Shrimp or foods designed for
filter feeding invertebrates.
Care should be taken when
acclimating your coral. (see
ower care guides for proper
acclimating procedure) Keep
water conditions high and
consistent, the addition of
strontium, iodine, calcium, and
other trace elements to the
water will help keep your
corals in good health. Your
temp. 72 to 78, sg 1.023 to
1.025, ph 8.1 to 8.4, dKH 8 to
12. Your light and water flow
will vary on the type of LPS
coral but most will require
moderate to high lite level,
and Medium water flow.
